Yes that is why. I used to live in Winthrop and have been up to the mine. I've been trying to view a good map of the fire/burn area but the ones on the internet are difficult to read. Now for chatter-while live there I worked for the Freestone Inn (frontdesk) and for Bearcreek Lumber. I loved it there and miss. It's sad to read about all the developing going on. The valley is changing.
Just looked at the fire map, and for your info the fire has not crossed that part of the Chewuch river yet. The perimeter of the fire shows the Tungsten mine area as safe for now...The snow should fly soon and all your worries of the fires should be gone for the year. It did burn around the base of Windy Peak...Boo hoo.
