I'm curious if anyone knows if there are any ham radio repeaters in the Methow Valley. Frequencies and Information would be appreciated.
Thanks
Matt

147.100 is an easy on to hit. It is up in Chelan samewhere. 145.450 is from Omak and is a bit harder to hit depending on where you are. Also there is a repeater system on 147.200 that is statewide, linked thru UHF and just uses different tones to open up the one in the area you are in. Try searching on http://www.artscipub.com/repeaters/ to find out more info. The only other ones I can think of are the 146.900 and 147.260 by Wenatchee. Going to take a beam or a mountain top to get into those though. There is another repeater in Omak on 146.720 but have not opened its squelch from the valley. As far as local repeaters, not that I know of. For just driving around it will be spotty coverage. From a base with a decent antenna you should do well. There are problems dealing with the government entities when it comes to putting up repeaters in their prized commo sites, plus the power situation at the established sites are pretty much maxed out for power- most need larger capacity lines put in. Now if one could figure out how to aim a beam right and take advantage of the illegal cable television amplifiers that are being used to rebroadcast tv signals for the local tv district. Interesting setup, rx antenna on one side of a hill, cable amp then a tx antenna on the other side of the hill, good hardline coax and there you go. Since it is wide as a barn door in operation they should be txing on ham bands also. To put up a repeater in the valley one basically would have to hide a solar powered repeater on a mountain top and hope that no forest service personel find and destroy it. Might fry one of those little spotted chickens ya know. Now if someone was to figure out a way to talk a homeowner on Stud horse mountain into allowing a repeater in their back yard.... Lots of luck to you Matt. Took the liberty of looking your call up on QRZ so will listen up for you. |

As a follow-up I'm curious to know how many Hams are in the Valley, I know KI7MO, W7UVI, K7TCU, KD7HFD and K7HSM. I'm KG7HD and will move to the Valley this summer. I'm not trying to form another organization, just wondering how many like minded individuals are around here. Thanks DaveB

| Just found these 6 year old posts. I'm in the same boat...soon to move to Winthrop and wondering what the ham activity is in the North Valley. I will be bringing several UHF repeaters and Echolink. More to follow if anyone reads this...Mike, WB6WUI, www.otwc.net/wb6wui |

Hi Guys,
I'm a "part-timer", live in Kirkland and have a home/ranch on Kumm Road in Mazama. I haven't been active at all on-air in the Valley but would if I knew there was a repeater. Looking forward to hearing more.

Hi, there is a new repeater in the Winthrop area. It is a 70cm repeater with a 2mtr remote base connected to it. 70cm repeater freq is 444.800, tone of 110.9hz, standard offset of +5Mhz. 2mtr remote base is 146.580, tone of 110.9hz. This repeater has an active echolink connection also so it can be linked to other repeaters world wide. Use KB7SVP-R or node# 354157 to tie into the Methow valley if you have access to an echolink enabled system when not in the Valley. Currently the location is close to the valley floor in the Big Twin Lake area and could move to a mountain top home in case anyone has such a spot..
The repeater over in the Omak area on 145.450 was moved which has impacted its coverage into the Methow Valley. Less coverage then before the move. The 2mtr 146.520 simplex freq sees some action in the valley so you might try that one also. Hope the info helps. Dave, KB7SVP |

Hey Bruiser...nice coverage on your UHF repeater and VHF link. Great job. And what timing. I can hit your system easily from the driveway . Maybe we should work on an RF link for these two systems. :-) There you go DPWeston!
I am also a part-timer until next year when I move from San Diego. I'm in the valley for a couple more days and have been testing my repeater here in Edelweiss. Decent coverage from the end of Lost River Rd and on out to about Twin Lakes and Hwy 20. It will be much better once I get the antenna up to the tree tops. I'm just testing while here for the holidays but the system will be on 444.850 PL: 127.3 eventually and also with EchoLink. Currently my EchoLink node is: WB6WUI-R and is in San Diego on 449.900, PL: 127.3.
That will then bring a second repeater to service Winthrop, Mazama and beyond. What took so long? :-)

So Dave...did you relocate? Have you figured out the active hams in and around Winthrop? Inquiring minds want to know.
